It’s enough to make you sick

Not only are over 16% of Oregonians without health insurance, our state has the highest daily hospital costs in the nation.

From the Portland Business Journal:

Residents in Oregon enjoy the dubious distinction of paying the most for a hospital stay, according to new data from the U.S. Census Bureau.

The average daily cost in 2007 was $2,336. Washington state finished a close second at $2,332 per day.

At 16.3 percent, Oregon also ranked high in percentage of persons not covered by health insurance. Only nine states have a higher percentage of uninsured.

The data, which was released July 8, includes information from each state on the civilian labor force and unemployment, elections, and various financial activities, including information on average automobile and life insurance premiums, and number of credit unions and FDIC-insured financial institutions. It also includes information on unions, police officers, work commutes, energy and transportation.
