Supporters of a ballot initiative that would put retired judges in charge of legislative redistricting say they will sue the Oregon secretary of state for throwing out signatures unfairly.
It does seem odd that initiatives that the left embraces like pot legalization or usurping property rights get a pass, while those that threaten the entrenched power-base, like this one aimed at preventing gerrymandering, get intense scrutiny.
“About 10 percent of the signatures for the redistricting initiative were disqualified before the statistical sampling, which is higher than average, said Tyler Smith, attorney for the initiative backers.”
